It's resource consumption, leading to resource depletion. Not to mention environmental degredation. Trade deficits are not the only part of this picture that is unsustainable. Driving around the various Calif burbs one see's endliess RV's, boats, ATV's, 3 + cars per driveway, well you get the point, no other economy offers the average worker such high energy lifestyle for so little going to be very hard to break the habit and I doubt that any political person running for office this year will want to deny these basic american consumer benefits.
