If anybody gives me a tax cut, I'm hanging on to the proceeds. Not buying a boat.

Am I the only one who thinks about rampant consumption in other than economic terms? This is not just money consumption. It's resource consumption, leading to resource depletion. Not to mention environmental degredation. Trade deficits are not the only part of this picture that is unsustainable.

This is very entertaining. However, I am betting that nobody is going to listen to Buiter. So if he's wrong, what he says is totally worthless. And if he's right, what he says is mostly worthless.

He was not at the local Boat Show this past weekend, consumer desire combined with various lending outlets were busy hawking the always upwards mobile lifestyle. Driving around the various Calif burbs one see's endliess RV's, boats, ATV's, 3 + cars per driveway, well you get the point, no other economy offers the average worker such high energy lifestyle for so little going to be very hard to break the habit and I doubt that any political person running for office this year will want to deny these basic american consumer benefits.

"Larry responds to any sign that private consumption may be doing at last what it ought to have done a long time ago, that is, decline, by suggesting monetary and or fiscal measures to reverse this decline. This is perverse. The fall in private consumption should be welcomed, not fought."

Exactly. Well put.
