Pentatonix’s Little Drummer Boy

This lovely rendition of a Christmas classic has already gone viral, but even if you’ve seen it, I suspect you’ll enjoy a second viewing. And both having sung in choruses and produced musical theater, I can’t get over the tenors’ ranges…

    At the risk of sounding like a first-class Scrooge, I’d much prefer to see an original version as opposed to lip-synching in an ostensibly pretty environment.

      Yeah, good point. How do we know Kaplan is really singing in that video? Someone could be throwing their voice.

      He does have a little silly grin on his face. Like he’s up to something.

    Thank you for this beautiful rendition. I had previously thought this song related to the loss of drummer boys in the American Civil War (or “The War Between the States” for some south of the Mason Dixon). But this post caused me to delve a bit and find out my historical understanding of the song’s roots is very wrong. Wikipedia has a nice summary of the history of the song and its spiritual interpretation. I am intrigued by the roles various vocalists and musicians have played in popularizing the song over time, including the von Trapp family – who were popularized in the film “The Sound of Music”: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Drummer_Boy

    Don’t care much for Christmas but love Christmas music. Little Drummer Boy is perhaps my least favorite Xmas song and have avoided looking at this until now – but it was beautiful – really impressive voices and beautiful harmonies. I’m a show tunes fan!
