Matt Taibbi and Your Humble Blogger Will Be on Bill Moyers’ Show This Friday

We taped earlier today and the subject was the JP Morgan hearings as a window into the role of banks in politics and the economy. Moyers is (not surprisingly) really gracious and skilled host and it was fun being on with Taibbi (I’ve spoken to him on the phone but we have not met until now). Moyers and his staff (which is very professional but quite relaxed) do a great job of putting guests at ease. They seemed really stoked after the session, so it appears to have gone well even by their stringent standards.

Check here for local broadcast times (it runs more than once at many PBS affiliates). I’ll put it up at NC once they post a web version.

    Yves,
It does not surprise me that you are a well received guest for your financial insight. Bill Moyers new show has been cranking out some very good indepth reporting for a while now. I see his return as a tipping point as a needed reality check on PBS. The situation as most can see, whether radical, conservative or liberal, is very bad and not getting much better. The shocks and aftershocks of political instability are causing an existential shock to the whole planet. Bill Moyers is doing as a honest a job of trying to come to grips with it all, short of being a boring and long winded graduate school seminar.

Bill Moyers is a national treasure. He can’t retire, with the loss of Molly Ivins he’s the only one who can carry the torch for old fashioned, clear eyed common sense in a national dialogue otherwise dominated by insular elites and their subservient media empires.

Anyway, just wanted to say that my local PBS affiliate (KSPS Spokane) carries Moyers & Company on Tuesday nights, so check local listings.

there’s a preview (42 seconds) up on the moyers show website. looks pretty good. but i have to say i found the upbeat music playing behind taibbi’s litany of crime quite bizarre (in an all too familiar way).

    tell ’em yves.

finally your intelligence is being sought, now that so many fools have got themselves in a really bad pickle.

I read transcripts rather than watch videos. But, in order to enjoy the actual voices attached to 3 great minds, I’ll make an exception here and bring some popcorn.

I really love Matt’s fearlessness and Yves brilliance. What a great combination…! We need a lot more Matt Taibi and Yves interviews and ALOT less blah, blah, blah from the CEO’s and the politicians. Can’t wait for the interview. Moyers journal is no holds barred. We need more like him.

Not only the “brilliance” of Yves but her grounded Voice of Authority. Definitive!

    Yves,

Thank you for your tireless fight against evil. It’s heartening seeing your message go forth.

Kudos, Yves! I have the greatest respect for Moyers. That should be a great show. I plan to watch it.

Yves, will you be trashing Obama so that Romney can win? That seems to be your primary mission these days.

      1. Foppe

Aww, poor baby. Voting for the other Party of Wall Street only means less political engagement from Democrats between election years, nothing more, and little less. Why is it Yves’s fault that you can’t force ‘your’ party to come up with better corporate puppets to vote for? I’ve heard and read enough lesser evilist self-censorship already to last me a lifetime.

        1. Lee

I generally vote for the lesser of two weevils for the simple reason that the little ones tend to eat less.

      2. Francois T

And to note that some “thinkers” of the 2nd half of the 20th century could state with a straight face that tribalism was dead…

        Mmbwahahahahaha!!

      3. LeonovaBalletRusse

Why not Yves for President 2012, bumping Obama as “Just” Dem candidate?

      4. different clue

As Professor Unger (and many non-famous obscure others before him) said, we MUST defeat Obama this election. Suffering the election of Romney is a price worth paying and a necessary tradeoff and step on the way towards either decontaminating the Democratic Party or exterminating it so that the space it currently usurps can be thrown open to conquest by a new legitimate political party, should one arise.

      5. Waking Up

Congratulations. Bill Moyers Journal is one of the RARE shows worth watching on television as he isn’t afraid to speak the truth. Personally, it is a must watch show for me.

      6. Waking Up

To Jasper: Anyone who views a president that:
        – signs away our civil rights through NDAA
        – signs away our jobs through new “free trade agreements”
        – does nothing to indict financial fraud of CEO’s while millions lose their homes and 46 million are using SNAP (food stamps)
        – accepts sending drone missiles to funerals
        – consults a “kill list” weekly to decide who to kill next without due process

…that person who then thinks those issues are somehow “lesser” should seriously look at their value systems.

    Friends;
It’s a sign of the times I guess, but I read that Moyers new show isn’t ‘officially’ on PBS. It’s a syndicated effort, not backed by the tepid Public Broadcasting. Here in Mississippi it’s on at ten thirty Sunday nights, you know, the graveyard. Can’t let the kiddies get exposed to the ‘adult’ content now, can we. “Sigh.”

  10. Linda Almonte

Two of my favorite people and of course my favorite bank JP Morgan chase setting the DVR now. Yves shoot me an email or call when you get a chance would love to catch you up.

  11. skippy

Season of the Bear Pit… eh.

Skippy… NC’ers get viral with this stuff, spam everyone you know.

  12. MontanaMaven

Okay, I had written Moyers off as having the same people on saying the same things about the state of the union without really ever tackling capitalism or providing answers to the question “What do we do now?”. But having Yves and Matt on, well, that’s another matter. I will watch.

    1. Murky

Would like to know what is at all wrong with Simon Johnson? He is an aggressive advocate of financial services industry reform, of breaking up the large banks, and of prosecuting criminal behavior. What’s lacking?

  13. Jill

Congratulations! It will be good to hear an accurate analysis of that which we face. Great news!

  14. Aquifer

More great stuff! Yeah! These folks are THE antidote to the obfuscation and outright BS of the MSM ….

Now all he needs is an antidote to the crimes of the duopoly so well presented – Jill Stein!

Bill presents alternative visions to so many mainstream ideas with one glaring omission – politics …..

  15. Deb

Bill Moyers gave the commencement address when I graduated Syracuse in 1980. He was great then and he’s great now. LOVE Yves and Taibbi. Can’t wait for this!

  16. Wat Tyler

Not in the schedule for UNC-TV. A search of their site brings up the Bill Moyers Journal but the most recent entry is April 2010. I will check further but public TV in North Carolina is under attack from the new Republican government. Communist media you understand.

    Jim

    1. Francois T

Here’s an idea: Get the YouTube video when it comes up and send it to all Republicans pols of your State.

The msg will be crystal clear: Resistance is futile! Give up while there is still time to do so at a low cost to your sorry butts.

  17. Francois T

It goes without saying that I shall be watching it, tweet it, FB it and send it to “Best Of The Left” podcast crew.

    Congrats Yves!

  18. Warren Celli

Sorry, can’t join the love fest…

Bill where’s the beef Moyers, all lament and no lightning.

Vanilla Greed idolizing constantly on parade with feeble swipes at Xtrevilism. It all adds up to good cop bad cop keep the crooked system alive energy dissipation. Choir boy aura of mildly energized hope and change that will go on and on like the energizer bunny long after we are all broke. He is really evil or incredibly clique in high school stupid.

Makes me tired thinking about him. I’m going to go take a nap.

Deception is the strongest political force on the planet.

    1. John

I agree. So tired of Bill. Where’s the outrage Bill at the ongoing rape and pillage of our country and people by the criminal elites?

Oh forgot, let’s talk with the other side and see if they have a very good reason for raping and pillaging us.

  19. stripes

Fantastic interview Yves and Matt! I loved Yves summation of how the ongoing bank fraud will not end well. The banks are the largest Government welfare recipients and who pays for that …? WE DO. That is why deception is so dangerous.

I agree with Matt about how none of the criminality…the massive bank fraud committed by the banks has been addressed publicly.

To hide the criminality of these banks and the $1.2 QUADRILLION dollars in DERIVATIVES FRAUD created by the banks by themselves and by proxies, is another dangerous and CRIMINAL deception.

This goes way beyond people getting mortgages they could not afford, that was used as the scapegoat by the financiers. Only 20% of the mortgages were loans to people who could not afford them. The LIARS LOANS……the poor quality loans given to unsophisticated consumers that were ticking time bombs, setting consumers up to fail were also used to blame the victims and intended to take the heat off of the banks. They USED UNSOPHISTICATED CONSUMERS to mask their massive DERIVATIVES FRAUD …….

THE DERIVATIVES FRAUD BY THE BANKS IS MASSIVE, UNSUSTAINABLE, COLLATERAL DEBT FRAUD…$1.2 QUADRILLION DOLLARS……THAT IS THE REAL CRIME and THE CAUSE OF THEIR GREAT DEPRESSION…

TO COVER UP FOR MASSIVE DERIVATIVES FRAUD BY THE BANKS……THAT DISCUSSION NEEDS TO BE BROUGHT INTO THE NATIONAL SPOTLIGHT…! THE COVER UP FOR THAT NEEDS TO STOP..!

THE AMERICAN PEOPLE DID NOT CAUSE THIS…!

NOT UNTIL the MASSIVE DERIRIVATIVES FRAUD BY THE BANKS IS EXPOSED WILL WE EVER BEGIN TO RECOVER.

WE THE PEOPLE ARE PAYING FOR NOTHING MORE THAN MASSIVE BANK FRAUD AND POLITICAL CORRUPTION ON STEROIDS…! THEIR DEBT MASKS THE WORLD GDP FOR THE NEXT DECADE…..! THERE MUST BE A
HONEST DISCUSSION ABOUT THIS…THESE BANKS ARE BANKRUPTING US TO PAY FOR THEIR UNSUSTAINABLE DEBT…THAT IS NOT RIGHT….THAT IS CRIMINAL FRAUD AND EXTORTION…

    1. stripes

I also agree with Yves on how in this environment, the Nazi party can rise to power. That is what the banksters caused during the last Great Depression, and that was intentional. What they should really fear are the John Dillinger’s they are also creating. Injustice imposed on the masses because of no accountability for the banksters fraud crimes will have many consequences because in reality, no one is above the law…and what goes around, comes around. No criminal ever really escapes justice. Ask O.J. Karma is a biyatch.

    2. tawal

Kudos to you and Matt, Yves! You were both outstanding. I hope he has you both back on in two years time so that you can inform America how nothing has improved and the big banks have continued in their criminal activities.

Wake up America, the Forbes 400 are stealing your birthright! Take your country back; they don’t stand a chance.
