NC Fundraiser Coming Soon!

It’s that time of year…. The NC annual fundraiser will be starting soon, meaning end of next week.

Readers contribute generously to this site in many ways, via sending links, antidotes, hanging out at our water cooler, um comments section, and last but not least, sending money. I hate to be forward about it, but an effort like this does entail the use of that crass commodity. If you believe in Naked Capitalism’s distinctive combination of serious analysis, prescient calls, and no-holds-barred commentary, we hope you’ll show your support via a contribution, either a one-time donation or a subscription.

We also hope you’ll tell us what you like, and where we need to do better, so that we can direct our efforts to things that you consider important. On the “fix it” list, our tech guy has found a plug-in that will allow for comment previews, and that will be going live on Tuesday.

This site requires an insane ongoing commitment of effort, not just by me but by other important contributors, among them Lambert and Matt Stoller. And it’s become more challenging to keep coverage timely and relevant as the effects of the global financial crisis keep fanning out into the political realm. That includes keeping close tabs on this painful election, where the debate revolves around relative degrees of awfulness, as opposed to merit.

As Matt Stoller wrote last year:

The truth is, you can get lies for free. Wall Street is only too happy to buy advertising, to make sure you hear from their well-credentialed experts. If you are not paying for your media, though, then they are. And you aren’t the customer, you are the product being sold. While this arrangement works, what it means is that you’ll get lies for free. And this is a very expensive proposition. So I hope that you’ll consider, if you haven’t already, putting some dollars towards the Naked Capitalism fundraiser. If you can’t afford much, give only a few bucks. If you can afford more, give more. If you can afford to give a lot, give a lot. It will pay for itself, I guarantee you. This isn’t just giving, it’s a statement that you are want a different debate, a different society, and a different culture. It’s about saying you are tired of the lies you are being fed for free, and are willing to put your valuable resources into reshaping how information in our society flows. It will help policy-makers understand that if they make good decisions, they have allies, and if they don’t, they have enemies.

So, to help keep the blog that never sleeps after the banks that never sleep, please participate when we go live on our fundraiser next week!

Given that I read this blog with greater fervor than any religious zealot perusing a sacred text, and given that it provides great entertainment as well as knowledge and insight, and given that there are 365 days in a year, I consider my donation last year of approximately 17 cents per day to be a better bargain than could be found in an entire superhighway of Wal-Marts.

I like including ‘antidotes’. The site is well kept from various toxic pestifers in the electronic culture medium. Congratulations to the lab staff.

For the last fundraiser, you provided us with a snail-mail address so that those of who prefer, could send a check. Could you provide that information again? Much appreciated.

Alright. I’m a student, so I don’t have any money, but I do read this site every day. I’ll do what I can.

That is one thing sites like this can do – free the merit that is handcuffed to the chair :) ….

Fighting the foreclosure of our farm, way beyond the city limits in a rural (read 93.6% pure redneck) part of eastern Oregon. Since late in 2011 I have been reading postings on this site – devouring them actually. I actually let my New Yorker sub. lapse and read on here and elsewhere; much richer non-fiction cannot be found elsewhere. Thank you Yves & Co. for expanding my view of this cloudy financial fishbowl. I’m more than ready to shake some Paypal in your direction.

I totally understand and will be most happy and glad to hand over my crass commodity to help!

Thanks for the excellent work Yves!

You might want to enumerate non online payment options such as check or money order (and where and who to send to) if those are available. That “Donate” button looks a little intimidating. If one can get this information from clicking on that, without having a drone take a sudden interest, let us know.

Sorry Yves, I’m unemployed & homeless…but appreciate the site. Nice to have someone reporting on what’s really happening. Keep it up. All you others out there- pay up! If you don’t you may be joining me in a tent in the woods.

      Dear Bob;
Hang in there. Our family lived in a tent in a State Park outside Lafayette LA for the first half of 1983. I had a full time job, and my wife had two tinys to take care of, another full time job. It finally ended well. Have courage, you are not alone.

I agree with everyone that this site is essential. I’ve had to cut down on my obsessive blog-reading (too dispiriting in too-heavy doses) but not this one. The links are also invaluable. I also read Jesse’s Cafe, who you link to occasionally. But he’s not 24/7.
    Keep up the good work.

In the Commie-Fascist dystopian horror-show future that awaits us, MONEY WILL BE ILLEGAL! Don’t take any chances, give yours to Yves, Lambert and Matt today!
