Join Lambert and the NC Commentariat for a SOTU Live Blog/Open Thread Tomorrow Starting @ 8:45 PM

Lambert has graciously agreed to DJ a live blog/open thread of the SOTU tomorrow evening. Given Trump’s history with World Wide Wrestling, it’s often best to regard his star turns as performance art executed in the wrong venue rather than policy. For instance, Trump has never made much noise about what is arguably his most important achievement: getting lots of conservative judges approved.

So come and hang out with the NC commentariat tomorrow evening! In the meantime, any ideas for SOTU drinking games or bingo are welcome.

never mind the state of the union, we already know it’s bad enough, so how about we to skip straight to the drinking?

As big of a turd as he may be, boycotting any POTUS’s SOTU is a bad precedence to be set by any party.

      almost,lol.
I can stand listening to trump even less than i can stand listening to Hillary or Lil George. His rhetorical style is more akin to Sister Sarah, than anything. (Aphasia)
I fear liver damage with such an exercise, so I’ll be hitting the big pink bong instead.
I expect both anger and disappointment(or total existential despair!) competing to raise my BP with that Kennedy(tm) person, so I’m glad Bernie is gonna introduce a little sanity to the evening’s events.
The First Porn Star interview might be fun, too.
and the camera pans on the Nancy and Chuck sections might be instructive, re: body language, facial expression, etc.
the pans of certain factions within the GOP, too….over the top enthusiasm, or blatant dismissal, or some wooden blank-faced impenetrability?
I might hafta turn the sound down on the main event.

In a desire to keep from having a conniption, and resultant stroke, I intend to spend the evening at one of the two fine dining/drinking establishments that do not have TV’s so that I am not in any peril of viewing the proceeding…..kinda like Odysseus. HOLD IT – that’s not like Odysseus at all…
Anywho, I toyed with the idea of watching it with the sound off – but I don’t like how he looks either

I ended up drunk and stoned on the porch, watching the moon rise with the armadillos and possums.
I don’t think the blessed event has even begun yet, lol.
Bernie is what I’m not yet passed out for.

…and the First Porn Star, of course.

A shot (beverage of your choice) for every “Beautiful”, “Wonderful”, “Mahvelous”, “Great”….. Acute alcohol poisoning at 5:55 pm., local time for me. Oh, and “Wall” counts as double shot….Salud!

Yes, I thought this was brilliant, although Joe Kennedy is such an empty 42′ long that t it is an overstatement to depict Sanders’ address as upstaging him.

But that would mean I’d have to actually WATCH the speech. I don’t think I can do this to myself.

Since I know my husband will be watching, I’m trying to figure out what’s at the local movies at that hour. Our house is too small to escape the tv, even with noise-cancelling headphones.

Joe kennedy giving the response to the SOTU actually seems to follow a tradition of duds giving the response to the prez.

Last year dems had that really old repub guy from kentucky. Repubs threw out bobby jindal one year after obama.

Those are just off the top of my head….i feel like there’s a bunch more dead heads that could be cited.

The only way that I would live blog his speech is if I were to drunk blog it.

I did that at one of the Presidential debates, and 2/3 of the way through my son, who was my non-drinking safety buddy, said that if I kept taking a shot every time something dishonest or stupid was said, I’d die, and made me stop.

I’m not up for that tonight.

    O.M.G.
I did not know about Trump and the ‘World Wide Wrestling’ association.
I first noted World Wide Wrestling in Misha Glenny’s book, “McMafia”, which was my intro to:
    — when the old Soviet structures degraded, wrestlers became the new ‘protection racket’ guys
    — the new money-power-resources were often protected by wrestlers — who had lost their political protectors and funders when the governments collapsed
    — these wrestlers soon turned to crime: mafiosa, if you will
So this is another Trump-Russian mafia linkage of which I’d been previously oblivious.
    Wowsers.

In addition to Kennedy and Sanders:

Virginia Del. Elizabeth Guzman, a member of the Democrats’ 2017 landslide class in the state legislature, will give a Spanish-language response — also official.
    ….
And there will be at least two more progressive responses. Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) will respond to Trump at the top of a BET news special, and former Maryland congresswoman Donna F. Edwards, who’s running for Prince George’s County executive, will deliver an address on behalf of the Working Families Party.

Human arrogance especially the highly overrated intelligence factor on the assumption that we are the best when all our chess grand masters have been losing to machines created by our own “ limited “ intelligence ! It is a lot more than mediocre human intelligence that really matters!!!
Let us learn to be less arrogant and learn more from our animal co- habitants and not repeat NOT kill each other for not repeat NOT greed alone but totally selfish meaningless egotistical needs.
We have enough matter and energy which are interchangeable but indestructible for eternity. We need to cooperate NOT compete!

seems you got started even earlier than i did.
      I’m with you in Rockland

what time does the damned thing start? and where can i watch it?

I wonder what a State of the Union speech would have sounded like if delivered by Madame President Hillary Clinton after her first year? Probably not so stupid, without the gestures but with more forthrightness and defiance. To be followed by the losing candidate, Donald Trump, making his own response speech afterwards. Meanwhile the state of the union would not be that much different domestically.

    I detect very little content.
    “great”
    “our country”
    “liberty”
    It’s like QVC.
    but I can’t tell what he’s selling.
    “talented”
    “great”
    “our country”
    “wonderful”
Barack was better, by a long damned way.
Hell, Sarah Palin is more engaging.

    So now we know.
    Trump CAN read…if somewhat poorly.

and they chant loudly :” USAUSAUSAUSAUSA!”

and I’m stuck…are we in Kafka, or Camus?
whatever it is, we are certainly well into the Absurd Phase of Empire.
    I say he’s our Honorius.
    It won’t be long, now.
