I live in Tucson and would like to go. I suppose I could just show up, but it would be nice to have info or a link of the actual meetup group.

I am glad you are interested and I am sure Arizona Slims will respond, but I am not sure what you mean about “actual meetup group”. This is a first time meetup and we don’t do Facebook. I assume the reason she is asking for an indication of interest is to give the venue a decent idea of how many people will be coming.

We will be that actual meetup group. And I will be basing my turnout estimate on what people say right here. So, comment away!

As a recent former resident of Tucson, here are a few things for the out-of-towners who may not be that familiar.

A good place to stay that is close – Historic Hotel Congress:

What else does Hotel Congress offer on Sat. and Sun. mornings:

And the excellent Cup Cafe for breakfast:

Also, the meetup bar is located on the Sun Link Modern Streetcar route making it even easier to get to the hotel or to take a tour of the greater downtown Tucson area:

I used to work a block and a half away (3rd Ave & 7th St), so a few more notes about the immediate area and parking:

4th Avenue is probably the most pedestrian-y area of Tucson (which isn’t saying much), and there is a high concentration of drinking establishments in that area (some of which have their own lots, but this place AFAICR does not). The area is decently lit and there probably will be at least some people out and about.

4th is one lane each way with metered parking along the street but such spots are somewhat hard to come by (and Hoff is essentially an alley). There is a parking lot on the map, but where I would probably at least look for parking is go to 3rd ave and 10th st. 3rd ends at 10th but if you turn right (West) there is a nice little dead-end with free parking that you can walk less than a block to the place (i.e. you can walk a few steps out to 4th and then less than a block north), and at 5:00 you should be able to find spots there.

Sorry I wont be able to make it, I won’t be in Tucson until a couple of weeks later.

One of you guys should wear a t-shirt with the initials for North Carolina on it – just to be subversive like. Man, I wish that I could get there. I’ve been checking out the food that you get there too. You guys sure know how to eat right in that part of the Union :)

Good Golly, Ms Molly! And here all this time I’ve been following NC I thought Arizona Slim was a grizzled ole cowpoke!

But it’s a play on Virginia Slims? Just love these noms de guerre!

        My most sincere ‘poligies, M’am.

If there are enough interested, may I propose a Santa Fe meetup? Sorta in the neighborhood of Tucson, and has some attractions as a side trip. Any other New Mexicans out there?

Yes, yes, yes!!! I live in Rio Rancho and would definitely go to an NC meetup should one take place in Santa Fe or Albuquerque.

Tucson is the best city in the United States. I wish I could be with you on that date and will encourage my Arizonan friends to attend.

If still in Tuccson would be there and not square…Brings back good memories on the highlights of 4th Ave…As it goes we have a have a big trip planned for May to BC. First ever to our fair neighbor to the North. I have to save money to contribute to the party economy in Victoria by drinking tea, eating local sourced food, strolling through countless flower gardens, marveling at amazing wildlife losing all sense of time in being in a water world. And visiting a pub or two to wash it all down with the comeraderie. You all have a great time. If ever Slim hosts another one, we will try to wander down from Prescott.

Me again. I just took a printout of this post to the Brothers Erman. They co-own Ermanos, and they’re excited about our meetup.

So, it’s time for another detail. I’ll be ordering a plate of appetizers for everyone to share. You want to have a meal or a drink? That’s on your nickel, pardner!
