Closing Hours of the 2020 Fundraiser, About to Hit Our New $ and Donor Targets!

The Naked Capitalism community has spoken!. You’ve said you want this site to have more in-depth reporting and impact. You’ve provided concrete backing for your desire to have us demystify finance, call out corruption, shred propaganda, become more effective in our activism, give all of you a place to sanity check and blow off steam, and in our small way, help promote the establishment of a more just society.

We set an initial target of 1100 donors for our fundraiser. You met that over the first weekend We set a new gaol of 1350. You broke that early last week. We set a new target of 1600, which you beat Monday during our Harry Shearer challenge. Our target is now 1800. We are just a few donations short of beating it! We are at 1773 donations. Can you be one of the donors to push us over the top?

Help us make this the best fundraiser ever by giving in the home stretch at our Tip Jar!

And we are at $39,010, close to our target of $45,000 for original reporting!

Can you push us over the top? Ever little bit will help, whether it’s $5 or $50, or $5,000.

Join us and participate via our fundraiser page, where you can give by credit or debit card of via a PayPal account (the charge will be in the name of Aurora Advisors).

You can also send a check (or multiple post dated checks) in the name of Aurora Advisors Incorporated to

Aurora Advisors Incorporated
164 Peachtree Circle
Mountain Brook, AL 35213

Please also send an e-mail to yves@nakedcapitalism.com with the headline “Check is in the mail” (and just the $ en route in the message) to have your contribution included in our running tally.

We’ve gotten SO many messages that it will take me some time to read through them all and reply properly. I wanted to share a few:

From Pavel:

Have to be stingy this year. I got laid off. I’m OK because of union-negotiated severance. Still, I have to watch pennies, so could do only $35. Well worth it. Naked Capitalism wades through the BS, so I no longer am drowning in it. I’ve been reading Naked Capitalism everyday since I found it during the House vote on Fast Track for the TPP. It was the first place I found that didn’t present the story as a bunch of euphemisms and journalistic taboos. Yes. The Dems were crooked weasels, including Obama.

Thanks to you as ever for one of the best sites on the web — I’ve been a loyal daily reader for years!

And Whitelockmandoubled

In for $50….Wish I could give more, but have to jump over and give Kevin Gosztola some love for his amazing Assange hearing coverage.

They should have retired a couple of journalism awards for NK’s work on Greece, and the combination of Yves and the commenters have given readers here an unparalleled ringside seat to the yearslong train wreck better known as Brexit.

I’ll check the Links and Water Cooler maybe once a week and am always overwhelmed by the amount of work Lambert and Jerri-Lynn have done over the years just to connect readers to the rest of the world. The assumption that we’re literate and care is just so refreshing. Thanks so much.

And Amy P:

NC is my go-to site every day, multiple times per day! I appreciate your thoughtful news aggregations, original posts, guest posts and the hard work of Lambert, JLS and moderators.

There is nothing else with the integrity of NC on the web, as far as I’m concerned. Hopefully the internet “kill switch” doesn’t make us go dark.

Thank you, again and again!!!

So, last chance. Be one of the final 50 to make this effort a smashing success.

If you can give a little, give a little. If you can give more, give more. If you can give a lot, give a lot. You are investing in being part of the solution. And thanks again for your support!

Well, we’re in for a few bucks.
Donating to Naked Capitalism and the Water Cooler are the true definitions of ‘Virtue Signaling,’ because, unlike most such endeavours, such donations are really virtuous.
    Stay safe!

Naked Capitalism is worth so much more to me than, say, Hulu, Netflix, or Amazon. I was thinking to myself how much more I have put in the pockets of those websites than this one. I just had to clear that up, and make sure I pay at least as much for what I get here.
And its still a much, much better deal. Much.

Numerous failed attempts to contribute. PayPal is confusing and untrustworthy and attempts to use a card end up with PayPal involved. Net result 0

I’m so so sorry. If you hit the second (lower) button at PayPal, to give by credit card, it should take you to a page where you enter your name, address, and card details. I’ve used it occasionally for purchases on eBay and never had any difficulty.

Alternatively, you could send a check.

Clive, our bank IT expert, gave this suggestion on a later post:

Your card issuer for the card you’re trying may have put in place an anti-fraud tripwire to refer transactions where the product is out-of-geographical-area (“product” in this case being used in the loosest sense of the word, but for the purposes of what PayPal is doing, they’ve probably used some not very clear wording on the referral code so you get this on non-physical-goods purchases like donations — even though nothing is really getting physically shipped).

If you’ve another card you can use, try that instead.

I can confirm that PayPal, being originally part of eBay and then spun out, “thinks’ in terms of shipments (I see all sorts of stuff in their backstage for that) and so it’s just about certain they tell your credit card issuer that you are paying for a US “product”. The really terrible PayPal messages to you don’t make clear whether the block is coming from PayPal or your bank, but I can assure you it’s not anything on our end.
