Thanks to readers for their prompt and generous donations! We got off to a slow start, perhaps due to starting over the holiday weekend and more reader “back from holiday” distractions than last year, but the pace is now picking up! Thanks for making our work possible!
Our next target, as we explain longer-form below, is continuing our expanded daily Links, which many of you tell is how you start the day, and for those outside Americas time zones, is often a major and in many cases a main new source. So help us keep this vital resource up to your high standards!
We’ve already closing in on 500 donations towards fundraiser target of 1100 donors. We also appreciate messages of support like this one from David S:
I would just like to thank you and Lambert and the crew for providing level headed honest analysis free from ideological barriers.
I started reading NC regularly during the 2016 election where it was THE only site not devoured by TDS, I realized the comment section was where I could find others that weren’t buying into the hysteria and trying to stay rational. That has really helped me personally on a psychological level as I don’t know many people who follow politics as closely as I do (I’ve been obsessed since college back in 84) and everyone is in their little ideological bubble, so seeing rational people discussing things in a calm no bullshit environment makes me feel less crazy.
I would have donated sooner but I was unemployed for several years, but am now in a decent place financially so I’m happy to contribute.
Thank you so much!
And Mike S:
The first website I go to each day is Naked Capitalism. I appreciate the curated links and insightful analysis which enhance my understanding of what’s really going on in the world. It’s incredible how much content your team produces each day with the small staff that you have!
Thank you and all the people involved for what you are doing and keep up the good work. I am a student in Belgrade just finishing my undergraduate studies in international relations and I use your blog as the main source for almost all research and day-to-day news. It’s also very good that you have a wide array of topics from history, sociology, geography to technology, medicine and ecology. I know in essence all those things are finely connected but it shows that you put in a lot of effort into the blog and I hope you have the will and resources to continue that way.
NC is an invaluable resource.
Even more important, we blew past our first two goals, The first was $24,000 to provide for more technology investments in the site. We’ve had to invest heavily here in recent years due to a more hostile external environment, including moving our main and backup servers out of the US. So good for you for helping us support mundane but absolutely critical budget items. This is our foundation for all the content we provide. The second was $21,000 for supporting the comments section. Again. you speedy donations showed how much you value those vibrant and information-rich discussions, just as we value the eagle-eyed reactions to our posts.
But these are only our initial targets. If you haven’t had time to contribute yet, we hope you’ll go to our Tip Jar pronto, which shows you how to give by check, debit or credit card or PayPal.
Our next goal $24,500 for continuing our expanded Links section. I do not want to overpromise, but it is possible that I will be in the US in later 2024 and able to do some meetups….but readers would need to find venues with acceptable Covid risk as in a lot of outdoor seating. Having said that, many of you have said you miss the meetups. and I would like to do some if things break the right way. But travel in the US and site coverage when writers are absent do not come for free!
As of 3 AM EDT, we already have $375 towards that target.
As we explained in our kickoff post, we expanded our Links section from the pre-Covid maximum of 45 links to now 55 to 60. This may not seem like much, but it represents a day-in, day-out commitment of additional staffing, as in an ongoing increase of manning of the site, which means more budget needs. So it takes more effort to provide your morning guide to what’s happening.
So those of you who have contributed already, thanks again for your generous support, and we look forward to those NC fans who have just found out about the fundraiser donating through the Tip Jar to help make the site more successful.
