Holiday Special: Dimash Sings Edith Piaf’s Hymne à l’Amour

Posted on by

Rather than the Fourth of July staple of fireworks, I thought a different sort of fireworks were in order, Dimash Qudaibergen singing Edith Paif’s Hymne à l’Amour. There was an apparent copyright issue with the official recording in June at the 27th Shanghai International Film Festival, with YouTube barring Dimash posting it on his channel.

I can get the production recording just fine here, but wonder if it may also be blocked in some regions. Those who encounter this problem and use VPNs might try with a location in Asia.

Oddly the fancam video below of the same performance passes muster with the YouTube police and has already garnered tons of reaction videos by vocal coaches and other Dimash fans. Needless to say, the sound is not as lush as in the festival’s recording. But I am sure you will enjoy it either way.

For those new to Dimash, here is another example of his talent, both his range and his control of his instrument. From the 2021 Sochi New Wave Festival:

And Stranger is 4th of July friendly. It’s about being an immigrant.

Gawd Almighty!!! For someone who is challenged to get to the Fifth of an octave singing a simple Dylan tune, Dimash is a vocal god. There is talent and then there’s Talent. He’s fireworks personified!

    Thank you, Yves.

    Wow! Goosebumps!

In a good way, not like the goosebumps I got a half hour prior, when Michael Hudson explained how changing from a gold standard to a dollar standard really removes the restraints from military spending. Aiiyeee!

But, I’ll take whatever small pleasures still exist: a gorgeous voice, a roseate sunset followed by a sliver of new moon in a deep blue sky, a soaring hawk overhead, a neighbor stopping by for morning coffee……
