Down to the Wire, Last Chance for Our 2021 Fundraiser!

Only a bit over six hours are left in the Naked Capitalism fundraiser. Show your support of sharp analysis, relentless pursuit of captured officials and lame pundits, demystifying complex topics, particularly in finance, exposing looting, lively phrasemaking, and cute animal pictures.

In the last four hours, we’ve gotten 21 more donations, putting us at 1625 donors, so we have some way to go to meet our final donor target.

But more important, we’re continue to exceed our dollar target. We’re at $47,420 versus our final target of $45,000. Every dollar you give now funds more original reporting!

Please help build on this success. Every dollar you give now goes to original reporting. Please go to the Tip Jar now to contribute.

And when you look at our budget compared to that of mainstream media newsrooms, Naked Capitalism delivers on remarkably lean resources.

Your contributions make a tangible difference here in a way they do at few other places. So please give whatever you can, since any donations, $10, $100, or $1000, is an investment in helping us do what we can to understand and influence the dramatic shifts happening in the economic and political realm.

And donors continue to send notes that express their enthusiasm for what you readers have helped build, a real community. As #DoStaySafeAndHealthy wrote:

Great to see this wonderful Family Blog not just surviving, but thriving through the seemingly never ending morass of pandemic, sociopolitical and economic misanthropy. So much to be grateful for from #NC:

• Support non-mainstream Econ from the early days of #MMT
• Dispelling the fog that is “politics as sport” created by the American political duopoly
• Holding the rich and powerful accountable for their countless misdeeds – #CALPERS, #Uber, #Tesla
• Providing sound analysis in the absence of good data – #AllThingsCOVID
• Wonderful antidotes to the miasma, which are also very much appreciated!

The world is in your debt and I truly hope #NC persists to see this ship of horrors on which we all seem to be trapped change its course!

I really also hope that at some point, #NC will resume meetups. My own dismal assessment of the pandemic is that it will be sometime around 2025 that things eventually subside. Not sure I want to wait that long, but the chance to see and have the opportunity to chat with fellow comrades and class traitors will be well worth the wait!

All the very best to you, your mum, Lambert, JLS and the others who maintain the high standards which #NC so richly deserves. Library of Congress #FTW!

From Dave in Austin:

Interesting. Most comments mention how NC protects them from too much MSNBC and NPR, both on the left.

Don’t forget it also protects us from FOX, the NYT, the little fascist napping in our limbic region and believing that Trump’s occasionally correct insights indicate competence.

Send NC your love… and, if you can, your money.

And SouthSideGT

I really can’t recall when I discovered NC but I know I was moved to send 60 bux when it appeared that the comments section might be shut down some time ago. I always found the comments section as educational as the posts themselves. One of my guilty pleasures has become watching Yves take some hapless commenter to task when they cross the line. Schadenfreude, I know I know.

Join us and participate via our Tip Jar, which tells you how to give by check, credit or debit card (be sure to send us a message, “Check is in the mail” with the dollar total in the message body so we can count your donation in the fundraiser total).

With our deadline of midnight PDT (3:00 AM EDT) we can still make it if those of you who haven’t had time yet chip in, and those who’ve given earlier make an additional donation on behalf of those that are suffering financial hardships. If you can give a little, give a little. If you can give more, give more. If you can give a lot, give a lot. You are investing in making a difference and in making the next year the best one ever for this community. And thanks again for your generosity!

  1. Nothing

I’ve just put in my contribution now.

If someone was to ask me why I’m donating, below are two very good (but far from comprehensive) examples of great articles that I want to thank you for.

Thankyou to the team at NC for all your efforts. Hope to see you again this time next year.

  2. Brunches with Cats

Coming in late as usual — like my first meal of the day, with the cat. No bottomless mimosas, just oatmeal and a cup of black coffee when it’s lunch time for everyone else. I did make an effort last week to increase my recurring monthly donation via PayPal, but after more than an hour couldn’t figure out how to do it and gave up. I asked in a comment if anyone knew how, got no replies — not surprising, given how late it was.

When I set up the monthly donation during the 2020 fundraiser, I didn’t specify an end date, so it’s still current — $70 to date. Mind you, $70 doesn’t come close to reflecting the value of NC in my daily life over the past year, but it’s far more than I could have considered donating in a lump sum. Because I scheduled the donations for the beginning of the month, November’s came out before the fundraiser began. I would have hoped it could be included in the donor count, but since I don’t know whether it did or didn’t, I just put another Lincoln in the tip jar.

      > after more than an hour couldn’t figure out how to do it and gave up

Some people with this issue do a new donation for the increment amount. Nobody can figure it out!

And thank you for the Lincoln. Musical interlude:

I am about to throw a donation Lambert’s way, which is why I write this. The “water cooler is a separate venture and separately funded” thing is I hope old boilerplate that is less accurate today.

I think we would all hope that Lambert is getting an appropriate cut that shouldnt necessitate him to fundraise as a quasi separate entity. But just in case that’s still how it works for him, here’s $500 to the Water Cooler tip jar!

Actually now that I’m looking for his Donate link I can’t find it so ignore all of the above things.

That is still the arrangement, which is why I have a separate fundraiser. This has worked well for all concerned for many years, including readers, so “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” That said, thank you very much!

I am in the enviable position of being a deplorable basement-dweller with a good-paying job. Can I afford to buy a house? No. Do I have enough money to show my appreciation of this wonderful website? Yes!

Cheers to everyone, but perhaps we should consider the accuracy of calling it Fundraising “WEEK”.

Love you all. Keep me informed, and keep me safe from Covid for another year!
