Yves here. While we are very grateful to KLG for taking up one of our new Coffee Break slots, and to Haig Hovaness and semper loquitur to joining our writing team (Haig on the Armed Madhouse Coffee Break plus Links, semper loquitur on our Sunday movie feature).
But we had wanted to fill all five of our 2 PM slots, and three are still open! So please put on your thinking caps again! Do you have any contacts (or contacts who might have the right sort of networks)1 who might be enjoy the chance to provide pointed views and engage with our esteemed commentariat?
We are reposting our earlier note on this opportunity. Please forward it to candidates and contacts who might know of some.
We hope you can help us find talented, energetic, and tough-minded candidates.
As much as we’d like a contributor to have a long and happy tenure here, past site writers have used Naked Capitalism as a stepping-stone to even bigger and better things. For instance, our scammer-buster Richard Smith went on to more systematic tracking of international con artists, which included among other things occasional pieces as Herald Scotland (he could have taken a higher profile but chose instead to work mainly with other investigators). Philip Pilkington is now happily ensconced at the storied asset manager GMO. Nathan Tankus is now a recognized economics commentator, both on Substack and Twitter.
Having said that, old graybeards (yours truly must confess to being long in tooth) are welcome too!
We anticipate that a new contributor will have written often on a professional basis, say as journalist, commentator, analyst, or even an old-school blogger, would like a regular part-time gig and/or would also like exposure to Naked Capitalism’s engaged readership. Being unphased by deadlines is important. Being willing to have a point of view is also critical.
Lambert has prepared a detailed production guide, and Naked Capitalism isn’t big on fussy formatting. So while there is a learning curve for how we do things, it isn’t very steep.
If you have someone to recommend, please write Yves at yves-at-nakedcapitalism-dot-com and put “Site Writer” in the subject line. Thanks!

1 Some readers have provided the names of prominent journalists or Substackers as ideas. The wee issue is they are operating independently and already have their own audience and platform. Plus an e-mail from out of the blue for busy writers is spam adjacent
But if you are able to approach professionals to see if they have colleagues who might be game, that would be very much appreciated.
Replacing Lambert’s hypertrophied baleen for information was always going to be a challenge. Those who have been found so far are most impressive.
Noting that both 2pm offerings are more specific topically, possibly another could be Guest Posts by some of those independents. Those like Whitney Webb, or Cory Morningstar, are deep on their topics, covering the full ‘finance, economics, politics and power’ within their purview, but at the expense of sifting the newsfeed for extended linkages. However, they do sit for interviews.
Some might enjoy engagement with the Commentariat. A slight browning on the barbeque makes for richer flavor.
For the interim, how about hoisting one or more multi-paragraph exceptional comments and use it as the basis for an open thread? Sometimes one comment spawns 50 others. If they are posted late in the day on Links they sometimes are overlooked.
Yellow waders are big boots to fill!
This is a good idea. Water Cooler was always a thread were I frequently read the comments first and then bounced around between topics. At NC, the discussion in the comments is often as good as the articles themselves. Often one of the commentators will have insight that the original author lacks (e.g. IM Doc on medical articles) and which adds considerably to the topic at hand.
Seconded. (or ‘thirded’?) Often I will scan the comments first- especially for the daily Links – curating by favorite commenters- 100+ comments are a typical occurrence (and a bit of a “time suck”). Or a particularly long comment occasionally may be more ‘signal’ than ‘noise’ (ymmv ;^). b over at MoA has hoisted particularly notable comments (often quite lengthy) for a post topic. Now that I think of it, maybe karlof1 (Karl Sanchez, long time MoA commentator), who specializes in geopolitics and government especially in Russia and the emerging multipolar world vis-a-vis the “Outlaw Empire” (that’d be us’ns), and recent Substack author would be glad to cross post his articles (often transcribed speeches and commentary from Putin, Lavrov, Maria Zakharova (she’s awesome!)and others, often with his own commentary appended. As he is looking to increase his audience, I’m sure he might be interested in contributing original pieces. As a two-bit paid subscriber and semi frequent commenter there I’ll be glad to run it up his flagpole- I know he holds NC ( and certainly Michael Hudson!) in high esteem and being in “our” age bracket might have the time available for some additional worthwhile writing.
I second that. Karl would be a great contributor.
You guys are just so danged smart your options are limited. Still, this site is read by the world’s smartest people so that’s a plum for the right kind of person who will come along.
Sometimes I think I’m pretty smart until I come here. I think the same as smart people do but I can’t explain it as gud.
Don’t be too hard on yourself, you’re all you’ve got.
Why can’t you, Yves, just do what Lambert did?
You’re the only one with enough juice to fill the Yellow Waders.
Truly, NC is the High Ground.
Let’s keep it that way!
We are losing ground here in America the longer he isn’t properly replaced.
i accept the challenge….lord knows i need an intellectual challenge, these days.
but only once per week.
i can talk, extemporaneously, about many things…autodidactic polymath, and all…
but the things i know best are permaculture, radical horticulture and system thinking…from dirt to plate to dirt…nutrient cycles.
i can go on and on.
i rant and rave, IRL, about much, much else, of course…as you all know by now.
i wish i could figger out the picture function…ie: how to actually send all the pics and vids i take of rather mundane, but crazy, shit that goes on around here.(ducks are lined up, looking at me, right now)
https://www.facebook.com/groups/192924435601174
as for that facebook page…my son set it up, used my real name.
and there it is…look for Joe Pinter….although i let special people call me Josef.
ive been Amfortas the Hippie online forever.
a good 20 years or more,
this is the first time, as far as i know(i was on a no fly list, after all…waves to nsa) that the two have met, as it were.
kinda weird..like being outed.
my name is Josef D. Pinter.
and im czech/irish/chocktaw….and a thought criminal by nature.
what i will not attempt, is to fill Lamberts Waders.
you give me a day, and ill stay sober(within reason, lol) in order to engage.
i wonder if theres pay involved…
How about a collaboration with Ian Welsh? Also, Sana Saeed, recently laid off by Al Jazeera, is a clear eyed analyst. Also, have you considered Lee Camp?
I’d like to recommend one very talented writer who, while tending toward local pieces, I think if she were channeling NC sorts of topics would be quite the heavy-hitter.
I know her personally and, mark my words, she’s both deeply political and does NOT suffer fools gladly, which rather reminds me of someone else I know and to my mind makes her a good fit at NC.
If you’re interested I can connect you. Some of her work:
