The Villa of Reduced Circumstances is still facing tough times, but the CEO (that is me)
and the Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Felines (that is also me
when I have to negotiate with the neighborhood cats), are in strong agreement that we can afford to give $5 to Naked Capitalism.
Another Anon
Aloha Yves,
A few days ago, after falling behind (again), I began some binge-reading of Naked Capitalism. And discovered that it’s fund drive time.
Thinking that maybe, just maybe it might be the time to up my NC contribution game, I clicked on “SOS ‘Double Your Donations’ Challenge.”
And there he was. A cat that reminded me of the late, great Earl Gray, pink nose and all. I could never (seriously) say “no” to “The Earl” during his life. How could I say “no” now? Could “The Earl” be guiding me to a $100 donation, with the chance to double it?
Okay. Really, I dunno, but why not? I looked at the date of posting. That opportunity—and subsequent opportunities—are probably long gone by now.
But, what the heck? While not exactly wealthy, I am in the fortunate position to donate a bit more without pain or regret (certainly without regret). NC, among its many accomplishments, reminds me to be grateful for my pension(!!!), a modest but dependable (so far) state government pension. And, furthermore, that said pension fund is not administered by CALPERS. (Our pension fund’s administration, for all its shortcomings, at least ain’t CALPERS.)
So, why depend on someone else’s generosity to make me a generous person? I can double it all by my ownself. A check is in the mail for $200.
I appreciate and learn a great deal at NC, with its tireless, dedicated workhorse “staff,” other content contributors, guest writers and commenters. But I also value the Antidotes and lighter fare at the top of the links. Who could cope with the news without them?
So, to acknowledge the contributions of all the petunia adorned cockatiels, rock juggling otters, sweet-corn munching porcupines, pumpkin crunching capybaras, Lambert’s cat (is he still about?), countless other smile inducing and laughter triggering links and antidotes and, of course, the fond memories of Blaine, Gabriel and (personally) Earl Gray, I hereby donate $200 to the 2023 annual fund drive.
Mahalo for ALL you ALL do,
Cathy
p.s. It happened AGAIN. I did not send my pledged amount for last year’s fund drive. Shame on me. Many apologies. Enclosed are two checks: one for $50 for the 2022 fund drive and the second for $200 for the current fund drive.
I’ve been a long-time reader, and I’m in an OK place financially these days, so it’s about time I make a donation. I put a $200 check in the mail this afternoon, and I’m in the Northeast region so it shouldn’t take long to reach the PO box.
Thanks again to you and the rest of the writers for all your hard work. My schedule has been a bit crazy this past year, but I hope to start commenting again more in the coming months.
Best wishes, and keep up the great work. Go get ’em!
