Ever since I was told about this site and introduced to Yves by Steve Keen over a dozen years ago, I have come to think of it as a collective group of thinkers with a common immunity to the economic distortion that surrounds most news.
It is important for me above all to see that Naked Capitalism continues in its broad form, because there is no other site even attempting to do what Yves is doing and what the new recent contributors are adding to provide coverage and analysis that is unique. I hope you agree and will go to the donation page to help this site continue to flourish.
I turn to this site early in the morning (as I can see many of you also do) because it is so much more informative than the New York Times or Wall Street Journal’s slanted political bias. There is no other source to compare with the linkages that we find here every day. Naked Capitalism saves me and us from having to wade through the usual sidestepping of what is most important.
Without the expenses needed to sustain Naked Capitalism in its current scope and form we would not have any similar broad range of articles such as the past year’s new contributors are providing alongside those by Yves. There is not even a rival site dealing with economic matters from anything like our unique vantage point. So this really is the most important and even unique voice on the internet covering the chaos being caused by today’s Late-State Barbarism.
For many years I turned in every afternoon to read Lambert’s coverage of Covid mismanagement. KLG has continued this tradition with his own Coffee Break coverage of biotech and the almost religious fight by the anti-science mob against vaccines from polio to Covid in the face of outbreaks here and throughout the world. NC’s Covid brain trust has continued under IM Doc, Ignacio, and the commentariat providing links to the most important papers. I’m dependent on these contributions to show me how threatening this anti-government ideology is becoming in continuing to trea Covid “just like a cold.”
Without Naked Capitalism, I would not have the time to follow the details of Trump’s attempt to use the crypto and digital currency bubble to finance U.S. Government debt and to grab Latin America’s oil and other resources. I love Nick Corbishley’s ongoing coverage of Argentina’s disastrous drive to borrow dollars to avoid depreciation, making the debt problem much worse for the country’s post-election. He ties this up with the latest news on Venezuela and Colombia, along with the related IMF austerity plan disasters.
Conor Gallagher’s coverage of the U.S. attempt to pressure Mexico to surrender its agriculture to U.S. genetic crop pollution that would pollute its own excellent domestic varieties is the most concise coverage that I’ve seen. His articles provide a guide to the related U.S. hope to seize oil in Venezuela, Argentina and perhaps ultimately Baku, and has extended this coverage to Türkiye, Azerbaijan and the U.S. drive to use Armenia and the Zangezur Corridor to block links to Central Asia and China’s Belt and Road initiative. Tis coverage of U.S. attempts to stir up regime change or at least cause chaos in Caucuses ties together the mounting trouble in that part of the world.
Conor also has been wading through the thicket of digital currency attempts to capture control of savings by mobilizing government support. I would not have the time to untangle these developments without seeing the concise Naked Capitalism coverage of this.
The quality of discussion from you in the commentariat makes Naked Capitalism my own favorite site for sending Yves my own articles for posting here before anywhere else. I often get helpful comments and leads to sources that I end up working into my own writing. Nothing like this is available anywhere else.
This isn’t run like Substack or Patreon, so contributing in the present drive is the only way to keep the site’s broad coverage. Without it we would be poorer, especially given the obligation we would have to spend our own time searching out what is happening in the key specialties we find here. The fact is that we simply wouldn’t search, because we don’t have the time – or in many cases even being alert to the problems that Naked Capitalism alerts us to as they start to develop, long before they snowball. So please support this information force multiplier by visiting the Tip Jar and making a generous donation.
So I would like to think that my urging for contributions carries as much weight with you as the other csontributors who have sent similar messages over the past few days. I hope that despite my plea coming after their head start will be as successful as theirs has been for urging you to contribute what you can. “From each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs” was the mantra with which I grew up in the 1940s and’50s (patriarchal as the pronouns were in socialist talk in those days). Well, we need this site, and I have faith in our abilities to keep it going along its present course. So again, please visit the donation page and dig deep, for all of us.
